On July 15, 1952, Dan Dunford, owner/manager, opened the Dairy Queen on the Tallmadge Circle. It was off North Avenue where the KeyBank parking lot is currently located.
In 1934 and 1935 the local Soap Box Derby race was run down the hill on Tallmadge Avenue by Thomas Road. In 1936 work began by the Akron Fulton Airport to become the new home of the American Soap Box Derby where races are still held today.
Tallmadge had a Radio Broadcasting Station built in 1929 - WADC - off Northwest Avenue
In 1926, Tallmadge hosted Greyhound dog races at a track located off North Munroe Road. The most famous visitor to the track was Babe Ruth, who attracted a crowd of 6,000 visitors.
In 1898, Francis J. Wright had the first milk route in Tallmadge. Customers furnished their own containers and mile sold for 5 cents a quart.
In 1809, Jotham Blakesley opened a blacksmith shop in a cabin on the east side of Southeast and Dunbar Avenues. He made wrought iron nails that went into all of the early frame buildings in Tallmadge.
